Louise Boruque is an artist based in Chicago whose practice often utilizes personal artifacts and their own body and bodily fluids in their work to investigate sex(-uality), gender and American values.

Through photography and found sculpture, they make wry commentary the portrayals of gender & sexuality in American media—all the while dissecting their own identity and experience as a queer American.

Portrait by MP Brandt

Boruque graduated from Columbia College Chicago in 2020 with a BA in marketing while assisting various artists in Chicago and working as a commercial model. In 2019, they studied at L’ESÄ in Tourcoing, France where fine art took a humanities forward approach and emphasized the questioning of classifications and categories.

Early career experience as a product photographer resulted in the approach to their condom series. Their still life and self portraiture practices submit to natural or environmental lighting for candid and intuitive self-expression.
